Reviewing the Writing Process While we describe writing as a process of generating ideas, planning, drafting, developing, revising, and editing, these stages do not necessarily proceed in a straight line. You can skip around, taking up parts of the process in whatever order you like, or work on several parts at a time, or circle back over what you have already done.
