When I taught at University of Wyoming, for example, we only had one four-year school in the whole area. Distance learning opens up opportunities for students who could not otherwise attend school. I was amazed by how many of the students wanted to create the social atmosphere of the classroom by telling me details about their daily lives, such as "I just got in from walking the dog, and blah, blah, blah."
