Briar Rose is being made available
in this form by permission of Robert Coover and his publisher, Grove Press.
We are grateful to both. Grove has published other important works by Robert
Coover. Here are the covers of some of them.

How to Navigate around this
Hypertextext
- To return to where you have just been, use
your browser's BACK button.
- Most pages will have links at the bottom
of the page. Those with numbers will take you to that section of the written
text. "Onward" will take you to the next image or text in this hypertextual
sequence.
- There are 42 sections to Coover's written
text. You can get to any one of them from the numbered list at the bottom
of this page. At the bottom of each section you will also find a numbered
link directly to the next written section and to one other section.
- You do not have to follow our sequence or
Coover's. Follow the link you want to follow.
Interpretation
- Click here for some things to consider
as you proceed through this hypertext.
- You will also find links to "comment" pages on
each page of Coover's written text. These will mainly be blank until instructors
using the book forward to Robert Scholes the most interesting questions and
comments generated by their students for any particular "lexia"
of Coover's text. (A "lexia" is a unit of hypertext--in this case,
one of the 42 written units of the original book by Robert Coover.) Scholes
will then select questions and comments for the appropriate pages. A few of
the early lexias have comments now, just to give you an idea of the kind of
thing to ask or say. (All this is experimental. We will see how it goes.)
Before you start, or if you have trouble hearing the
