How to Use Your Word Processor

Copying, Cutting, and Pasting

To copy and paste text, make sure you have selected (or highlighted) the text or graphics you want to copy. Then use one of the following techniques:

Copying and PastingMenu Commands: The most common copy, cut, and paste menu commands are EDIT > COPY, EDIT > CUT, and EDIT > PASTE. To use these commands, click on the Edit menu and then on either COPY, CUT, or PASTE.

The Toolbar: Use the toolbar to copy, cut, or paste text. Select the text (or, in the case of pasting, place your cursor in your document) and then click on the toolbar icon to copy, cut, or paste text or graphics. (If all of these icons do not appear on your toolbar, you can add them using the TOOLS > CUSTOMIZE command from the main menu.)

Copying and Pasting

Keyboard Commands: The most common copy and paste keyboard commands are CTRL-c (copy), CTRL-x (cut) and CTRL-v (paste). To use these commands, hold down the control key (CTRL) while you press the c, x, or v key. (On the Macintosh, use the command key.) In some programs, you can also use the INSERT key to paste text.

Drag and Drop: To drag, click on the selected text or graphic with your mouse and hold the button down until the cursor changes. To drag, continue holding down the mouse button and move the cursor from the browser to the point in your word processing document where you want to paste the text or graphics. Then release the mouse button.
