I'd like to take a crash course in designing Web pages. Is there a Web site
that can help me?
Yes, we especially like Jeffrey Veen's The Foundations of Web Design, a series of tutorials. Veen is executive director of interface--a title he made up himself!--at Wired Digital. He is also the author of HotWired Style: Principles for Designing Smart Web Sites. For the Web site, he got out a big pot and boiled the book down into a three-part Web design manifesto that looks at what makes this whole Web design business tick. He gives advice about navigating the places where art and technology collide, and offers his Ten Commandments of good design (well, OK, there's only three): speed, simplicity, and clarity.
The three lessons in Web design are well worth a visit!
