FAQ for Chapter 6: Using APA Style to Cite and Document Sources

Using the APA style of documentation, how do I cite an archived sound recording or sound clip available on the Web in my list of references?

If you are citing material from a sound recording or sound clip available on the Web, how much information you include in your citation depends on what kind of information you can locate. If possible, give the name of the artist, composer, speaker, or producer (if known); the date of publication or last revision; the title of the recording or clip (if known); the title of the complete work (if relevant), in italics or underlined; a retrieval date statement; and the URL.

Here, for example, is a References entry citing an archived radio interview that Eastern Kentucky University’s president, Bob Kustra, gave to Paula Kopacz and Andrew Harnack.

  • Kopacz, P., & Harnack, A. (1999, January 8). Interview with Bob Kustra. New Horizons in Education with EKU President Bob Kustra. Retrieved December 13, 1999 from the World Wide Web: http://www.weku.org/horizons.htm
