This Wall Street Journal Web site allows you to see how complex topics are handled by a prestigious publication in an online environment. You should notice the four-part structure, particularly in longer items. You will also be able to notice how anecdotes, personalities and scenes are regularly used by the Journal to put a face on a range of issues and topics. As a point of comparison, find out how other major papers have covered the same topic.

LINK 2: www.sierraclub.org

Chapter 8 discusses how the Sierra Club puts its own spin on the topic of clearcutting yet uses the same four-part structure common to complex writing as well as other elements of strong writing (pages 205-206). Go to this Sierra Club site to see examples of writing of various lengths that present the Sierra Clubıs position on environmental issues. In addition to short news items and longer features, this site contains press releases about the organization, its views and its activities.
