Mike Markel's Web Design Tutorial
SECTION 2B: Make the Text Easy to Read and Understand

People don't like to read long passages of text on the Web. Use a lot of headings, as well as short paragraphs, to chunk your information.

Ineffective text
Few people will bother to read a big gray paragraph such as this on the Web.

Effective text
Bullet lists (called unordered lists in HTML) make the information easier to read on the screen. Breaking the long paragraph up into several smaller ones makes the material easier to read and understand.

Example
Linking to a list of the agencies that sponsor the Consumer Sentinel, rather than listing them in the paragraph, makes the information more concise. The reader who wants to know the names of the agencies can still find them easily by following the link.
