BIOGRAPHY
John Frederick Nims (b.1913) was born in Muskegon, Michigan. He received a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of Notre Dame, where he taught for six years before leaving for the University of Chicago to get his Ph.D. Nims published his first book of poetry, The Iron Pastoral, in 1947 followed by seven others including Selected Poems in 1982 and The Six-Cornered Snow Flake in 1990. He was also the editor of Poetry magazine from 1978 to 1984. In addition to Nims' success as a poet, he has published many respected translations and introductory poetry textbooks. John Frederick Nims died in 1999.
