BIOGRAPHY
Edward Hirsch (b. 1950) was born in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Grinnell College and received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979. After completing his education, Hirsch began teaching at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. His first book of poems, For the Sleepwalkers (1981), was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and his second collection, Wild Gratitude (1986), won the award in 1987. He has published two other collections, The Night Parade (1989) and Earthly Measures (1994). Since 1985 he has been a professor of English at the University of Houston.
