BIOGRAPHY
Sophie Cabot Black (b. 1958) was born in New York City and raised on a farm in New England. She received her B.A. from Marlboro College and M.F.A. from Columbia University. Her poems have appeared in many publications including The Atlantic and The Parisian Review and have been anthologized in More Light: Father and Daughter Poems and The Best American Poetry 1993. In 1988 she was awarded the Grolier Poetry Prize and in 1989 received the John Masefield Award from the Poetry Society of America. Her first collection of poems, The Misunderstanding of Nature, was published in 1994. Black has also published several essays and translations of Latin American poets. She currently teaches at Columbia University.
