Once you have completed some preliminary research in a textbook or in an encyclopedia and have created a research outline, you need to look for additional books, journal articles, and other sources of information on your theme. For each of the points listed on your research outline you need to locate one or more sources of information.

• The best and most efficient way to find information about your theme is to go to the online catalog in your library and search for sources about your points.
• Be sure to take advantage of all the databases in your library.
• When you have discovered all the sources in your library, you can also search the World Wide Web. Do not try to do your basic research on the Web. Use the Web only as a supplement to the material in your library.
