Connecting the Parts of an Essay
Each part of your essay should make an important point about your theme. Each of these parts needs to be logically connected so that the essay as a whole builds toward its conclusion. Without properly connecting your points, the reader will become lost, and your essay will not be successful. See Creating a Writing Outline.
In connecting the parts of your essay, make clear to the reader how they are connected. The best way to do this is to write transitional sentences. These sentences are at the end of the last paragraph of each section and tell the reader that you are moving on to a new point and that the new point is related to the previous one.
FOR EXAMPLE: "These examples of corruption in the government of Fulgencio Batista in Cuba show one element of its weakness prior to the Cuban revolution of 1959. The Batista government had other weaknesses as well. The next part of this essay will examine the government's unwillingness to make concessions to the major political parties."
