Exercise 36 Apostrophes
Edit the following sentences to correct errors in apostrophe use.

1. Every manufacturer is required to reduce it's factory emissions, but if a company does more than required, it can sell the right to pollute to other companies.

 

2. For instance, lets say that XYZ Company of Ohio reduces it's factorys emissions 10 percent more than required.

 

3. ABC Company of New York could then buy XYZs right's, which would allow ABC to reduce its emissions 10 percent less than required.

 

4. Environmental organizations have tried to stop this practice, criticizing companies motives.

 

5. Some citizens groups have begun buying pollution credit's themselves in an attempt to put pressure on the countrys major polluters.

 

6. Since this country is a democracy, it's policy's are supposed to be determined by what its people want.

 

7. Of course, my desires may be different from your's, but we should consider what course will ultimately benefit the majority.

 

8. Nevertheless, even if a majority favor's a policy, the policy should not be enacted if it interferes with the right's of various minority's.

 

9. If we are tempted to claim that a majorities wishes overrule a minorities rights, we should remember that each of us is in the minority on some issues.

 

10. Its our duty to protect all of the people, even those we despise, so that our childrens' children will enjoy the same freedom's we enjoy.
