Exercise 9 Relative pronouns
Revise the following sentences to correct errors in the use of relative pronouns.

1. In the last half of the nineteenth century, many Europeans that had read accounts of early travelers and traders were eager to map Africa.

 

2. Brazza, an Italian-born aristocrat whom was funded by the French government, explored what is now Gabon.

 

3. Brazza's views differed from mainstream European policy, that considered Africa an inferior continent available for colonization.

 

4. Brazza wanted to negotiate for trading rights with the people that lived along the Middle and Lower Congo (Zaire) River.

 

5. He denounced the exploitation of the Congo by ruthless colonizers who he criticized shortly before his death in 1905.

 

6. Baseball in the 1940s was a segregated sport, which kept players of color in their own Negro Leagues.

 

7. The Negro Leagues were filled with talented players that sometimes played as many as 300 games in a six-month season.

 

8. Finding accommodations was difficult for a black player, who "whites only" hotels were off-limits for.

 

9. Branch Rickey signed Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers, an act which integrated the major leagues.

 

10. Rickey traded away any Dodger that said he wouldn't play with Robinson.
