BIOGRAPHY
Duane Locke (b. 1921) Locke was born on a farm near Plains, Georgia, but because of the poverty of Depression years farm life, his parents brought their only child to Tampa, Florida, where he has lived ever since, except for stays in Europe. He attended the University of Tampa and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Florida. He spent his entire teaching career at the University of Tampa, and retired in 1989. He has published over a thousand pieces, mostly poetry, in over four hundred different magazines, and produced fourteen small press books of poems. By his own account, he now lives "unemployed with eight cats ... and one wife in the slums of Tampa, Florida, where daily I experience the lower depths, although it has been about six weeks since I have seen a bleeding man dying in the streets."
