BIOGRAPHY
Stephanie Vaughn (b. 1943) Vaughn was born in Millersburg, Ohio, into a military family that moved frequently from post to post. She grew up in Ohio, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Italy, and the Philippine Islands. She earned a B.A. from Ohio State University and an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. Her stories have appeared in the O. Henry and Pushcart Prize collections of best short stories, and her first book of stories, Sweet Talk, appeared in 1990. She is a professor in the English Department at Cornell University. One critic extolled the stories in Sweet Talk: "The tone is extraordinary, simple, clear, and defined like the ringing of a bell, and yet suggesting a world of the most difficult complexities—our world where there are no single, or even permanent, answers and where human beings veer toward and away from one another, never fully in reach."
