Publisher's Note
Bedford/St. Martin's is pleased to make available this reorganized and expanded sixth edition of The Bedford Bibliography for Teachers of Writing. We are gratified by the response to the first five editions. Not only have they proved a useful addition to the professional libraries of thousands of individual instructors, but they have also found a place on the reading lists for many graduate courses on the teaching of writing.
Since first appearing in 1984, both the Bibliography and the list of books in the back have expanded—the Bibliography to reflect the growth in the body of literature in composition studies and the list to reflect the growth of our composition program. Bedford Books was founded in 1981 as an independent editorial arm of the St. Martin's Press college division. The two publishing programs were combined in 1998 under a single imprint—Bedford/St. Martin's. Today we are the largest publisher of college composition texts in the country. We are immensely proud of the authors we have attracted to this list and of the books they have worked with us to produce. We continue to believe that any publisher ultimately must be judged by the quality of the books it publishes. As we enter our third decade, we continue to invite such judgment.
