How to Use Your Word Processor

Printing

In Microsoft Word, printing all or part of a file is typically accomplished through menu or toolbar commands. You can also use keyboard commands, but the command is somewhat difficult to remember in Microsoft Word.

Menu Commands: Use the FILE > PRINT menu command. The Print dialog box will open, allowing you print all or part of a file. The default behavior is to print the entire file. If you wish to print part of the file, you can select a page range or, assuming you have selected a passage of text, just the text you have selected. You can choose a printer using the Printer Name drop-down menu. Among other options, you can also specify the number of copies to print.

Print Dialog

Print Document ButtonThe Toolbar: Use the Print icon on the toolbar to print a file. Clicking on the icon will cause the Print dialog box to appear.

A Note on Using Keyboard Commands: You can also use keyboard commands to open the Print dialog box. In Microsoft Word, the default print document command is CTRL - SHIFT - F12, which is accomplished by holding down the control, shift, and F12 keys at the same time. If you find this command difficult to remember, you're not alone.
