Bettina Fabos

Bettina Fabos, an award-winning video maker and former print reporter, is an associate professor of visual communication and interactive media studies at the University of Northern Iowa. She is the author of Wrong Turn on the Information Superhighway: Education and the Commercialized Internet (2004). Her areas of expertise include critical media literacy, Internet commercialization, the role of the Internet in education, and media representations of popular culture. Her work has been published in Library Trends, Review of Educational Research, and Harvard Educational Review. Fabos has also taught at Miami University and has a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.

Anne Fadiman

Anne Fadiman is the author of The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, winner of a National Book Critics Circle Award, an L.A. Times Book Prize, and a Salon Book Award. She is also the author of two essay collections, At Large and At Small and Ex Libris, and the editor of Rereadings: Seventeen Writers Revisit Books They Love. Her essays and articles have appeared in Harper’s, The New Yorker, and The New York Times, among other publications. She is the Francis Writer-in-Residence at Yale.

Alice Fahs

Alice Fahs is associate professor of history at the University of California, Irvine. Her book The Imagined Civil War: Popular Literature of the North and South, 1861–1865 (2001) was awarded Honorable Mention for the 2002 Lincoln Prize. She has also published articles on Civil War history, gender history, popular culture, and popular literature.

Deanna L. Fassett

DEANNA L. FASSETT is Professor of Communication Pedagogy at San José State University, where she has served as a course coordinator of a variety of introductory and advanced communication studies courses for more than ten years. She has also served as her department's Graduate Teaching Associate supervisor since 2002. Her research, published in journals such as Communication Education, Basic Communication Course Annual and Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies, addresses issues of power and privilege, continuity, and care, with respect to instructional communication in general, and foundational courses in the discipline in particular. She is the author and editor of three books, including Critical Communication Pedagogy, The SAGE Handbook of Communication and Instruction and Communication: A Critical/Cultural Introduction.

Jeffrey Brown Ferguson

Jeffrey B. Ferguson (PhD, Harvard University) is Assistant Professor of Black Studies and American Studies at Amherst College in Massachusetts, where he teaches a course in the Harlem Renaissance. He is the author of The Sage of Sugar Hill: George S. Schuyler, Satire, and the Harlem Renaissance (2005). His 1998 dissertation on the African American journalist George S. Schuyler was awarded the Helen Choate Bell Prize. He has been a fellow at the W. E B. Du Bois Institute.

Kevin J. Fernlund

Kevin J. Fernlund is an Associate Professor of History and Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the Executive Director of the Western History Association, and a Fulbright Scholar. He is the author of the biographies Lyndon B. Johnson and Modern America (2009) and William Henry Holmes and the Rediscovery of the American West (2000), as well as editor of The Cold War American West, 1945 to 1989 (1998). His research and teaching interests include the American West and Big History. Fernlund has edited the fifth, sixth, and seventh editions of Bedford/St. Martin’s Selected Historical Documents to Accompany America's History, Volume 2: Since 1865.

Dana Ferris

Dana Ferris is Professor and Associate Director for Lower-Division Writing in the University Writing Program at the University of California, Davis. An applied linguist by training (Ph.D., University of Southern California), she has many years of experience teaching in ESL/multilingual writing programs and in mainstream composition programs. She also has spent over 20 years as a teacher educator, working with future K-12 teachers, with M.A. students in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Composition, and Reading, and with Ph.D. students in Linguistics, Education, and English.

Her research has focused extensively on response to student writing and on written corrective feedback in second language writing. Her work has been published in a range of journals including TESOL Quarterly, Research in the Teaching of English, Studies in Second Language Acquisition, Journal of Second Language Writing, Across the Disciplines, Writing and Pedagogy, TESOL Journal, and CATESOL Journal.

She has previously published seven books. These teacher preparation and reference books have focused on the needs of multilingual/second language writers and readers and on responding to student writing. Titles include Teaching L2 Composition: Purpose, Process, and Practice (3rd Ed. 2013, with John Hedgcock, Routledge), Treatment of Error in Second Language Student Writing (2nd Ed. 2011, Michigan), and Teaching Readers of English (2009, with John Hedgcock, Routledge).

David Ferry

David Ferry, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in Poetry for his translation of Gilgamesh, is a poet and translator who has also won the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, given by the Academy of American Poets, and the Rebekah Johnson Bobbitt National Prize for Poetry, given by the Library of Congress. In 2001, he received an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Ferry is the Sophie Chantal Hart Professor of English Emeritus at Wellesley College.
