Harris, a professor of English and director of the Humanities Institute at the University of Connecticut, is the author of Dr. Mary Walker: An American Radical; Executing Race: Early Women’s Narratives of Race, Class, and the Law; and Rebecca Harding Davis and American Realism. Works she has edited or coedited include Periodical Literature in Eighteenth-Century America; Blue Pencils, Hidden Hands: Women Editing Periodicals, 1830-1910; Rebecca Harding Davis: Writing Cultural Autobiography; and American Women Writers to 1800. She has received numerous teaching awards for undergraduate and graduate teaching.
